Set Review ➟ 10298 LEGO® Vespa 125

On this new occasion we will build the new set for 18+ with the reference 10298 and 1106 pieces, the Vespa 125 of the sixties. The model is approximately 35 centimeters long and 22 centimeters high, comes in a beautiful light blue color and with details such as the double seat. In addition we will build a beautiful helmet as well as the detail of the bouquet of flowers to take to your partner when you go to pick them up :).

The set comes with the contents divided into 9 bags numbered 1 to 6, and also comes with an unnumbered bag in which you can find the rims and tires, both pieces are new references in the LEGO catalog. As always there is also the construction manual and in this case there is also a sheet with stickers to add details such as the logo, license plate, etc ...

As is customary with these 18+ sets the manual delights us with some text about the construction. For example it explains that the Vespa was a perfect symbol of a bright new future, not only because it was a means of transportation but because it represented a new lifestyle. We are also given a timeline with some of the models ranging from 1946 to 2021. Curiously, no model with a double seat appears in this timeline. It will be followed by a few words from designer Florian Müller about the design with parts.

We start building now, hoping as always to enjoy building to the fullest and sure to learn new things ;). As always, the manual tells us which part of the construction will be done with each bag. We will start with the base of the vehicle in bag number one. There is no outstanding technique in this part, but as always we can see the importance of starting the construction well at the beginning to get a scale if not perfect, then extremely adequate. The base in the form of "slingshot" will determine the final size of the bike and seeing the final product in the box have achieved it to perfection.

An aside, throughout the manual we will find some pearls of information. One example, at the beginning of bag two we are told that over the course of 2021 no more and no less than some 19 million scooters have been produced.19 million! It is clear that the Vespa has been a globally successful product since the first version was produced. Here the construction focuses on the upper rear part, i.e. seats, license plate, etc.... Unfortunately the first stickers appear. It is a pity that in sets typified as 18+ they still include them. It is true that we know the high cost of printing the parts but we will never cease in our efforts to complain about it. The license plate sticker indicates the date of birth of the Vespa.

I love to feel the progress of the construction and how the different parts fit together to get that shape, so perfect. I envy the design vision that seems so trivial when creating these models.

We finish the bag by completing the seats of the vehicle.

In the third bag we already touched a new piece at the very beginning. A curved plate bigger than a macaroni brick. Finally :). In this bag we will focus on the classic housing or fairing that protects the driver's legs from both inclement weather and bumps. In addition the front of the bike is built. Here I really liked how they have played with a single stud of the two that the yellow piece has (33909-tile with two studs on one side) to fit the three parts of the nose end, it gives a real firmness along with the light gray construction that later will cover the spare wheel.

Starting from the fourth bag we see from the manual that we will work on the classic aerodynamic sides of the bike as well as continue to outline the front. I liked the implementation of the exposed engine part, it is simply a detail that is a marvel. The images speak for themselves. The Vespa looks stunning. Anyone who has ever not had the opportunity to see a Vespa knows it's a Vespa ^^.

From the next bag we are going to give us the pleasure of putting the wheels. It is more than evident that they are from a Vespa since the inner part of the tire has that characteristic white band of the model. We all know the enormous capacity for manufacturing LEGO tires. It is a great detail that provides an excellent real approximation to the scooter. The fastening of the rear wheel to the chassis of the bike is very simple but of an impeccable aesthetic. Here they are also creating details such as the exhaust pipe and the vertical fastening pins of the bike.

On the other hand, the anchoring of the front wheel is more complex, mixing technic parts with the construction of snot parts to achieve the side fairing.

Detail of the ingenious interior of the handlebars.

And so far the model already looks like this. There are still some important details that will enhance it even more if possible. Let's enjoy the last bag of the set.

10298

Here the details to implement are the starter pedal, gear pedal, front shock absorber, the helmet, the carrier is another stroke of genius and of course, the bouquet of flowers. Finally we have finished the construction of this classic icon that -another pearl of the manual- has a permanent exhibition in the museum of modern art in New York.

The set is a marvel, for AFOLS that are motor and scale model lovers in general and even for vintage lovers in general. It is a jewel to have without any doubt. The execution is quite flawless, there are no difficult areas or complex steps so in my opinion any hobbyist big or small will not have any difficulty except possibly the stickers.

We thank LEGO for providing the set for review in this article. The opinions expressed herein are ours alone and LEGO neither supports nor endorses them in any form.
