Technic news: Nuremberg Toy Fair

The Nuremberg Toy Fair is always a good moment to learn more about upcoming novelties on the LEGO front. The 2016 Toy Fair gave us the first images of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056) and this year LEGO has another surprise in store for us in the Technic theme.

As we have learned through the Zusammengebaut website, LEGO has joined forces with Liebherr to recreate its R 9800 excavator. As you can see in the opening image, the original is a real beast. And LEGO is recreating it in stylle judging by the press release.

New in LEGO Technic: CONTROL+

With LEGO CONTROL+, which is made up of of new electronic components and a free app, children and adults can live an even more authentic play experience. Through its touch screen, CONTROL + allows life-like control as well as for example the ability to program different simultaneous movements of the model. In addition, the application provides feedback on the model.

LEGO Technic CONTROL + will be rolled out for the first time on August 1, 2019, with the Liebherr R 9800 construction set, a model of one of the largest excavators in the world. The LEGO Technic model will consist of more than 4000 pieces, seven motors and two intelligent hubs and can execute several movements at the same time. "LEGO Technic CONTROL + gives us the ability to provide an even more versatile play experience around the physical LEGO Technic model, and we are very happy to have Liebherr as a partner for one of the first LEGO Technic sets to incorporate this novelty," says Niels Henrik Horsted, Marketing Director of LEGO Technic. For Liebherr the collaboration is also ideal: "The fact that the LEGO group offers our Liebherr R 9800 as a construction set confirms our motto 'Technology that inspires' on a small scale. The attention to detail and functionality that the model offers are fantastic. We are confident that this will not only inspire LEGO fans but also many fans of our industry, "says Gregory Shuh, Marketing Director of Liebherr-Mining-Hydraulikbagger.

We have also seen the first images of the LEGO model (again thanks to Zusammengebaut):

The retail price for this set with set number 42100 is 449,99€ (in Germany).

The application appears to also include voice control.

There are also details of three other Technic sets that will come out this summer:

The presentation in the following video also mentions the feedback from la model, but it is as yet unclear what that entails (e.g. if the motors will have encoders).
