Benny has become one of the most beloved characters in The LEGO Movie, and one of the reasons is because he is an astronaut of the Classic Space theme. This theme from the late 70s—early 80s, maintains a base of fans today that continues to build and modernize the theme according to the main guidelines that defined it at the time. suddenly the possibility of LEGO resurrecting the theme was no longer just a dream. In the end, unfortunately, all we got was the set 70816 Benny's Spaceship and the subsequent set 21109 Exosuit. For that reason, the first images of the The LEGO Movie 2 sets have shaken the waters again, although after so many lost hopes we know that everything will be limited to these sets, and that we will have to enjoy them as much as possible. Two small sets bring Benny back to our lives but this time he doesn’t come alone.
Set 70821—Emmet and Benny’s Fix it Workshop.
This set is labeled with the 4+ in the lower left corner, which seems to turn it into a kind of a Junior set, easy to build for the little ones. In this set Benny pilots a ship that meets the standards of the theme and a small buggy that vaguely resembles that of set 6804 of 1984. It is an interesting set, with useful pieces for any construction of Classic Space, but nothing particularly striking. and that's where the second set comes in.
Set 70841—Benny’s Space Squad
No doubt that this set will become a bestseller among the fans of the theme. We could talk about the buggy, the small ship or even the robot, but let's be honest, if this set stands out for something it is for its minifigs. In total it contains four astronauts, Benny, a yellow astronaut, a white one and a…pink one. Yes, pink, I do not know what will be its role in the film but I’m sure of its role in my life. From this moment on it is an obsession until I can have it, rather have them… because only one will not be enough. If the appearance of the green astronaut in set 21109, and the possibility of building a gray one from the torso of set 71018, was joyful news for the fans, the new pink astronaut is a new revolution. Long live Classic Space.
