2019 Technic sets
Some videos and images of 2019 Technic sets have surfaced. While we try to be respectful of official publications dates and avoid leaked data, in this case the quality of the videos clearly indicates this is official LEGO material (although not originally distributed through official LEGO channels).
The first of these two videos shows the 42095 RC Stunt Racer
The set is very similar to the 42065 RC Tracked Racer and there are some significant coincidences, apart from the very similar name. The number of parts is very close the the 2017 offering too (324 vs 370) and the price is likely to be similar too.
The first things that stands out is the selection of electric/electronic elements. These are still all Power Functions. The recent introduction of the Powered Up system in the 2018 trains and in the 76112 App Controlled Batmobile had fans speculating the new PUP system might also be integrated in new Technic sets. This is evidently not the case. LEGO has chosen to stay with Power Functions for this release, although it has upgraded the Medium motors from the 42065 to Large motors in the new 42095, providing more power to the set.
42065 also had a different motor placement: the M-motors were placed at opposite sides of the tracks. In the case of the new 42095 both L-motors are placed on the same side. The set does not appear to include any of the rubber track inserts that would greatly increase the grip of the tracks on a hard floor, meaning that the set will likely perform well on carpet but much less so on a tile or wooden floor.
The second video shows a new race car, the 42096 Porsche 911 RSR This set is the little brother of the 42056-1 Porsche 911 GT3 RS from 2016. That set consisted of a whopping 2704 pieces whereas this one "only" contains 1580 pieces—almost half. Of course the price tag will also be very different…
As the box art shows, this model doesn’t come with the traditional "B"-model. That’s not really surprising though, because it would not be easy to provide a satisfying second option that would fit within the brand (maybe a cabriolet version?).
The rear of the box shows some additional details of the model, although these can already be seen in the video as well.
