Set Review ➟ 10391 LEGO® Pharrell Williams Over The Moon
While this set finds itself in the Creator Expert line, the actual build is far from expert level and is actually one of the simpler builds that I have encountered recently. There is some SNOT action and a little bit of sliding clips onto bars and bars and pins into holes and none of it is difficult or tricky. Advertised for ages 18+ I believe this could actually be assembled by an eight-year-old. The most difficult part of the assembly is getting the heads in the gallery in assembled in the suggested sequence. One has to assume the positioning in the LEGO line has more to do with marketing than with build complexity or play value.
The main part of the set, the shuttle with exhaust trail, measures approximately 19.5 inches/50 cm tall, 6.5 inches/17 cm wide and 7.25 inches/19 cm deep.
Clearly a display set, the main model should be recognized for being a solid and stable build. On the other hand, the heads in the gallery are not secured at the top, so those may tend to list a bit to port or starboard within the frame. That said there is some, but minimal, play value in the shuttle which easily separates from the colorful exhaust.
The set comes with two figures, Helen and Pharrell.
One or two figures can be placed in the cockpit of the shuttle, however there is no cargo bay.
Do not ask me why all of “My Phriends” have been decapitated and their heads stacked in a box. Is it that “phriends” is a homonym for “friends” but not a synonym? Could it be a box of decapitated heads is the reason for the 18+ rating? On a less philosophical note, some of the phriends heads have new prints while others do not; some heads are printed on two sides while others are not.
The selection of heads goes a long way in checking the box for inclusion, but while LEGO has included two heads with one hearing aid each, I believe we have yet to see one head with two hearing aids…which I suspect is more representative of the real world hearing-impaired population.
The Randolph T. Fielding Absolutely Administrivia Section
The set has no stickers.
The gold drum-lacquered windscreen ships in its own separate baggie and is, so far, unique to this set.
My set came with one mangled technic liftarm. (This one piece should invigorate the new vs. used parts debate on the various forums.) So, yeah, new, out-of-the-bag, this arm with one end pinched and torn, and with a gouge in the midsection. I was concerned that the piece would not work, but it did, and it is buried in the build so it is not seen.
This makes three out of the last four sets I’ve reviewed with some sort of quality control issue. Maybe I’m just…lucky?
Summary
If you are looking for a tall display set which occupies little horizontal space and is powered by unicorn dreams and a pastel exhaust, or if you are looking for fifty-one diverse minifigure heads, this is absolutely the set for you.
