Set Review ➟ 76291 LEGO® Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron
With set 76291 we have another Marvel tableau model, this time representing the opening scene from the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. The set does a nice job of compressing a few separate moments from the sequence into a single model. The set’s indivudual elements are reasonably accurate and the colors are evocative of the scene.
Being a tableau, there are some considerations taken to heighten the visual excitement by making sure that some elements appear to fly or otherwise may be airborne. The base elements of the trees, tower, and bunker are grounded. All other elements—the jeep, the motorcycle, and the Czech hedgehogs along with figures Hulk, one Hydra Agent, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, and Black Widow—are attached by transparent mounts.
Besides being a tableau, some elements are available for play purposes. The jeep and motorcycle can be removed from their mounts and used by themselves, the bunker has working shooters, and there is a lever under the bunker that will pop the bunker apart. The bunker also makes use of a mailbox assembly on the underside and extra ammo for the shooters can be stored there.
The jeep offers multiple points for figure attachment, either directly or via transparent mount.
The set has several figures: Three Hydra Agents, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and a large Hulk.
All minifigure heads are two side printed except Hawkeye. Hawkeye has new prints on his torso and legs. The hydra figure shares new head and torso designs with set 76288. Iron Man shares mask, torso, and leg designs with the same set. Thor’s cape, part 5725, is new and shared with set 76289.

The set has no stickers.
All minifigure heads in my set are part 3626 hollow stud except for the Hydra Agents who have the newer 3274 safety stud. My set has heads where the two sides’ printing is not on the exact opposite side. Black Widow, Tony Stark, the Hydra Agents, and especially Thor have one face somewhat side-shifted.
I compared the Thor head with the similar head from set 40525. The ink on the hair color is different. While both have hollow studs, the earlier head has a shorter stud. For the pictures below I stood the two figures on a plate and centered the faces on one side. Then I turned the entire plate 180 degrees. Note how far off-center the newer head print is. Looks like LEGO may have a printing machine that is a bit out of alignment.
Summary
For a display set Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron does have some fair play value. The selection of minifigures is good if not entirely unique. The build is generally quick and simple and the only remarkable aspect is the many and varied transparent mounts.
