Set Review ➟ LEGO® set 75387 - Boarding the Tantive IV
It will only take you a moment to notice when you see this set, which is very similar to the Mandalorian set in which Luke makes an appearance and fights the Dark troopers. We're talking about set 75324. If that set was good, this one is going to be absolutely delightful for a number of reasons. The exclusive minifigure and because it is the opening scene of the classic saga. The moment when a star destroyer catches Tantive IV and seconds later our favourite villain, Darth Vader, enters.
A priori, looking at the box of the set, it doesn't look like we're going to find any elaborate fine spinning techniques. We will see what it has in store for us. Here are the contents. 5 bags, the instruction manual and a sheet with several stickers.
Hello! A couple of members of the "rebel mob" greet us here. Look out, new colour, reddish orange!
The construction starts at the base. The only notable features are the four hand springs to make the rebels levitate to a Vader movement.
Stormtroopers... why do we love stormtroopers so much?
In the next section we will fill in the side panels of the access corridor. Nothing special except to point out how the door frames are implemented in snot technique. Simple but when you see how to put the door and its mechanism it will be one of those ideas that you have to write down for future constructions.
Next up is the ill-fated Captain Antilles. The same one who already appeared in the Tantive IV 75244 set.
We continue giving some more texture to the wall and we finish the frame of the access door to the corridor.
A few more plates and bricks and we have reached the height of the small diorama. We have also finished the mechanism that will facilitate access to the corridor.
Last bag with Darth Vader, the exclusive Arc trooper Fives and the plaque commemorating the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars and... ...a printed panel with a door from Tantive IV! I think if this piece ends up on the LEGO wall I predict a good success. I think I'll buy a few :O.
Thanks to a slight greebling we will finish the corridor panels leaving them pretty cool. Notice that only with a few black grilles on a red plate it looks like a panel full of red LEDs. The best thing without a doubt is the door opening mechanism. Very simple but surprisingly effective. Also once opened we can see traces of fire and burns on the frame that make the scene much more realistic and in line with the beginning of episode IV.
The scene is very attractive. Totally recognisable and very simple to construct.
A set to own if you're a fan of the original trilogy because of the scene, great iconic scene, exclusive minifigure o..... But hey, is there really any reason why you should have it?
