Set Review ➟ LEGO® 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica
The 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica is a thoroughly enjoyable build in a format we have come to like and collect. The box is the standard format and the rear shows a small image of the original model this set is based on
The instruction booklet and stickers don’t reveal any special surprises. The stickers are fairly discrete and do add some character to the build, especially on the rear of the model. More about that further down
The mechanisms in this model are all you can expect to get at this size: there is no differential and the left rear wheel connects directly to the (working) crankshaft of the model. The second mechanism is the steering from a HOG on top of the roof straight to the front wheels.
Do doors count as mechanisms? Anyway, the fact that both the doors and the hood open do make the model that much more interesting.
It isn’t all positive though. Lime green is a cool colour that first the set very well, but LEGO has some serious issues with this colour. Some of the parts used in the set are made of a different type of plastic and they are uniformly off colour. This is not a new issue and LEGO hasn’t been able to correct it yet. Knowing that this would be an issue it might have been wiser to go for another colour, despite the fact that lime green is a signature colour for Lamborghini.
Still, the design is good, the build is enjoyable, the model is fun…. Pity they can’t make the green look good
