Set Review ➟ LEGO® 76423 - Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station

Well, and here we are again with the last set of this licence to review. This time the Hogwarts train next to Hogsmeade station. It will be a set of 1074 pieces, 8 minifigures and a price of 129.99€. It will be available by the time you read these lines, as it went on sale on the 1st of June.

The contents are 8 bags, in addition to the one with the tracks, the track derailers and of course the locomotive wheels. Also the construction manual protected in its cardboard folder and a great sheet full of stickers. Pure irony.

As always we start with the minifigure, in this case the main character, the young Potter.

I also see a coin I didn't know about :)

In this section we start with the locomotive. The most interesting part is the suspension of the small front wheels. We will see that this part has a position trick that makes it fixed or movable for cornering.

In these next construction steps I have been able to check a couple of new references for me as well as to assemble Miss Granger with a very cool skirt and her socks :).

The locomotive has some beautiful details like the coal bunker or the side handles. The main technique is to lengthen a rectangle on brackets lengthwise and cover it with curved slopes and other necessary pieces. There is not much to it but the result is precise.

In this bag we will build the tender, the coal bunker, of the locomotive. A few simple steps and it is ready. I would have liked the engine driver's legs to have a drawing to match the torso, but nevertheless I love it.

Next bag, we start with the first wagon. First we ride Ron, who looks like a scared little boy :). The carriage is very cute, but as always the space in LEGO is so limited that it doesn't even have an aisle between the seats. Besides, the seats are on the floor, not even on a plate :S. However, the playability is very good because the roof and one of the side windows can be easily removed.

Here you can see a box of... flavoured beans :P and a magic candy next to the candy witch ^^.

The next carriage is practically the same as the previous one except for one less seat and one less window on each side. It is 95% copy and paste.

Finally, in the next bags we have to build Hogsmeade Station. Let's go for it. We build the evil Malfoy and see a ticket for the Hogwarts train indicating platform 9 and 3/4. How beautiful it is, from London to Hogwarts :).

The base of the station is fairly standard with the odd detail such as a toilet, a ticket desk, a telephone and two fireplaces.

Here is the penultimate minifigure, Lee Jordan.

The station, apart from a few cool details, is very normal as you can see. Easy to play in the front and back, which is always nice. Personally I hate those small spaces that adults can't play in and we can't play with our children :|.

And we come to the end of this journey with a handful of more pieces and of course with our dearest and kindest Hagrid, plus we can see a 2x2 tile with a very familiar image... and it's not a sticker! and it's not a sticker!

What we have left is to build the outer parts of the platform with a gate and the red lamp post and at the other end the Hogsmeade station sign.

This is a playable set with fun details and easy to build. Both the small station and the locomotive with tender I really like, although it's true that the scale is very small, it's still a real cutie. I praise the decision to add the train's "derailers". For the youngest children it is very frustrating to have to manually re-rail the train and these pieces make this task easier. All in all a colourful, fun set, with a good assortment of minifigures and some very interesting pieces. We would like to thank LEGO for providing this set for this article, although LEGO will never endorse or support the opinions expressed in this article.
