Set Review ➟ LEGO® 76916 Porsche 963
The second of the new Speed Champions sets under reviews is 76916 Porsche 963.
The box contains two numbered bags, a fairly large sticker sheet and an instruction booklet. This set doesn’t contain the new chassis element and instead uses one of the more familiar chassis elements to build this model, which is added separately.
Most of the car is built in a relatively straightforward way, although to great effect. The only offset part of this build is the basis for the central wing shape in the rear which rests on a series of jumper plates. Just like the Pagani, this model also uses doors as part of the build. In this case they are even placed where you would expect them, but only used as panels to build the sides of the cockpit. : they cannot be opened.
Possibly the most interesting art of the build is the rear end of the car which is built sideways using a combination of techniques. My favourite part in this structure is the rear spoiler which is built at two slightly different heights, creating the impression of an incline.
My least favourite part is without a doubt the stickers. You might have guessed from the size of the sticker sheet that there are quite a few, but this top down view from the official image gallery gives you a better idea of how man stickers there actually are:
I decided not to apply them, and I’m quite happy with the result, but you will have to decide for yourself whether you like the model better with or without.
