Takua: previously on sets 8595

Global launch January 19th.

Hello everyone. It seems that LEGO has started an offensive against our AFOL hearts and lately we can find sets of themes that are already defunct but were once very successful, which have turned them into cult themes for adult fans. In this case, and taking advantage of a gift with purchase, LEGO has brought back nothing more and nothing less than Bionicle. To do this, he has chosen to bring two characters from the Bionicle series, Tahu and Takua, back to life, but with an unexpected twist.

Tahu
Takua

The new versions are built with system bricks, not the more specialized parts of Bionicle. This obviously marks a considerable distance from the original sets, which may disappoint fans of the theme, but may also make it more appealing to fans in general. Although, as I have already commented, the set does not include the particular parts that characterized Bionicle, the box still includes the old logo of the line and the main photo of the model is very similar to the photos of previous versions of the model. It should also be noted that nowhere in the box can you see everything that the set includes, something particularly strange for me. A small platform with an egg and stacked 1x1 plates doesn't appear anywhere in the box, personally I think it's a platform for the smaller model, Takua, but nowhere except in the instructions is there any reference to that little build. .

The set comes in numbered bags and does not have any stickers. The two Bionicle masks are prints, not stickers. The instructions have arrived very bent but not broken, nothing that a good ironing with an encyclopedia cannot fix.

First the small base with the egg and Takua are built. Takua does not appear on the front of the box either, although he does appear on the back and appears mounted behind Tahu's back. It is probably the model that has suffered the most when transferred to system bricks given its size. Even so, the joints in the legs and the rotation of the shoulders have been maintained. Then the base and the kind of surfboard on which Tahu slides are assembled. It is well resolved and undoubtedly gives the whole the air of an exhibition model. The latest to be built is the main model, Tahu, and here the designers have given it their all, achieving a very well articulated model that can be placed in practically any position (believe me, I've tried everything). Bionicle fans will probably disagree with me, but the system model is much more playable and moddable than the original. Without a doubt, it loses that xenobiological aspect that the Bionicle models have, but at the gameplay level I think this adaptation is better. Although LEGO has tried to maintain the original color scheme, we once again encounter the problem that the joint parts continue to be manufactured almost exclusively in black or different shades of gray, which makes them very visible in the model, damaging the final finish of the model. A pity as well as a questionable decision that after these types of joints have spread so much through different themes they are still so limited in terms of the colors available.

The assembly has no difficulty and is entertaining, without any kind of challenge. The final result is beautiful and without a doubt a good homage to the line from my point of view, probably a Bionicle fan would have preferred an improved version using pieces from the line. Not a bad gift with purchase I think.
