Set Review ➟ LEGO® 40391 First Order Stormtrooper

In this post we will show one of the sets by designer Chris McVeigh, the 40391 First Order Stormtrooper. The set has 151 pieces plus a couple of extra pieces and is priced at 17.99€. I remember quite some time ago arriving at the designer's website browsing community builds and seeing some of his small computers, his bonsais and simply hallucinating. To hallucinate for that detail in such small constructions full of harmony and aesthetics. When I saw that face of Santa / Santa Claus captured with a few plates .... Wow!

When Lego released the Bricks Sketches I immediately remembered this builder, to my surprise when I saw that he was the designer! Here is what the box and its contents look like.

I admit that I had never built anything like this before and it certainly seemed trivial at first glance. Something that can make you think: "Ah, this is easy. Some plates there and some there..." Nothing could be further from the truth. As you go deeper into the construction you realize the order and difficulty involved in doing something like this. It is a small masterpiece with an unmistakable result, anyone can see that it is a stormtrooper without being a big fan of the Star Wars saga.

The construction is curious because it is done in brushstrokes. Let me explain. It is made on a base of 4 plates of 4x12 white and begins to put the layer of red color from top to bottom.

The second layer from bottom to top.

Again the third from top to bottom. There is something that I found curious not to say divine. And it is how the designer using 2 white hinge plates, plays with the hinge to put the peak of a wedge plate in it and thus leave the perfect angle to place the stormtrooper's helmet vents.

Here a stop is made to make the rear support which is firm enough to expose the image of the Stormtrooper.

The next layer breaks the rule and is again from top to bottom, with it we finish the construction.

All in all, this is a very nice set and worth trying because the construction is different from the way other sets of any line have been built.

We thank LEGO for sending the set, although the opinions are ours alone and LEGO neither endorses nor supports them.
