Set Review ➟ LEGO® 10280 Flower bouquet
Photos and text by Muriel
In this review we will show a set from the Botanical collection included in the Creator Expert line, in this case the set 10280 - Flower Bouquet. The set has 756 pieces and some extra pieces that we will show at the end of the review. It is priced at £44.99/$49.99/€49.99. It is a set that can be oriented towards the botany lovers and of course for the Afols who love botany and LEGO in general.
The set consists of bags numbered up to number three. Two bags with number 1, two with number 2 and one with number 3, as well as an extra bag with the 32 axle in the new sand green colour, and of course the instruction booklet. There are no stickers and no printed bricks.
According to Bricklink, this set contains 18 references in new colours. This is great for those builders who like colour and variety of parts in their constructions. In the instruction booklet it is indicated what kind of flowers are going to be built with a brief description of their origin as well as their scientific name. In addition, in my particular case, there is a reference with 2 units that I didn't have in my stock, which is listed in Bricklink as: 68013 Black Cylinder Half 1 x 2 x 1
It also shows us a few lines referring to the set designers.
Lego shows us in the instruction booklet a curious fact that is in line with the sustainability of the planet. The plants are made from plant-based plastics which makes the production process more sustainable. The aim is to achieve the goal of making bricks from sustainable sources by 2030.
And now we start to build the set. Here we can see what kind of flowers we will build depending on which bags we open, as in this set we also have the particularity that we can start with the bag we want.
The construction of the set is quite simple, both for the amateur lego fan and for the profane who may never have built a set before. There are no complicated steps, and with just a few pieces the results are surprising. All the flowers represented have been well done, the ones I liked the most for their construction were the Rose, the Poppy and the Aster. The daisies are very simple. Certainly the latter are not so easily recognisable except for the white and yellow colours. Perhaps playing with the petals in a more elongated way would have made them more recognisable.
Next come the roses. The construction is based on the dark green ruffles and the petals are attached to the structure by means of clips. The green leaf on the stem using a pterodactyl wing is fantastic.
Next up is the orange poppy, totally recognisable and the result is great. The construction is very simple based on modified bricks with studs on 3 sides and covered with wedges. One of the ones I like the most without a doubt.
The dragon's mouth flowers are as follows. The construction follows a tower construction pattern of 2x2 round plates with arms upwards and 2x2 octagonal plates with a bar. Again we use modified clip-on tiles to crimp the petals to the stem.
Lavender is totally recognisable. It is based on making a structure using plants with pin down and introducing 6L bars.
The aster is also one of the most successful. Here we use again the 2x2 plates with octagonal bars and from there with 1x1 mod plates with horizontal clip to add the leaves. A picture is worth a thousand words.
The end result is great, almost.... I can smell them!
And as always when we finish the construction of a set we look to see what extra pieces we have left for our stock or replacement in case of losses.
I must admit that when I first heard about this line and saw the first images on the web I was totally shocked. It seemed so real and with so few pieces!!!! Of course, it is in this type of set that the enormous creative potential of LEGO bricks can be seen perfectly. The only limit is your imagination. The results are astonishing to say the least. This set is highly recommended for any fan of botany, Afol who likes flowers or who wants to decorate a corner of their home with a beautiful bouquet that will never get damaged!
We thank LEGO for making the set available for review. Of course the opinions expressed in this article are ours alone and are not shared or endorsed by LEGO.
