Set Review ➟ 75302 Lanzadera Imperial

The 75302 Imperial Shuttle is a new Star Wars Set. This box recreates the Lambda class Imperial Shuttle shown in the Return of Jedi movie. I think this is the third time this ship is made in system scale (For minifigs). The first one was the set 7264 Imperial Inspection (year 2005) with 333 pieces. The second one was the set 75094 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium (year (2015) with 917 pieces. There is also a UCS version and some mini scale models of this ship. So, with 660 pieces this set is half way between the 2005 and 2015 versions.

The box contains 660 parts and 3 minifigs. The big instructions block is perfectly packed inside a plastic box to avoid damage.

The building process was very funny. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow. However, there were a lot of technic techniques all over the ship that seems to be for nothing, just for structural purposes. At first sight, the ship seemed to be very close to the 2015 version, but with 250 pieces less, I supposed that there would be some features missing. I really wanted to see the final result. It had a decent size, despite being 250 pieces far from the 2015 version, but for a price.

When I finished the ship I had many complaints, that I will explain later. In my opinion, the visual aspect of the ship is very nice, but all the potential of this set is not fully exploited.

The ship comes with some working features: the cockpit can be opened to play inside.

It also features folding wings for flight and landing modes. (The stand of the pictures used to placed the ship is not included in the set).

The cargo bay comes with a clever mechanism to block/unblock the opening of the top part.

Furthermore, it comes with to spring blasters, located in the cockpit, and two rear blaster that can be moved up and down.

There are three minifigs in the set: Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and an imperial pilot. Vader has the new style helmet and very detailed printings. And Luke and the pilot have both sides printed. They have their light sabers and weapons.

As I said befote, I think this could be a great set, but it has some shortcomings. I will try to explain them.

First af all, the ship can not be placed when the wings are displayed in fliying position, so you need to unfold them in landing position in order to put it in any place. However, the ship has no landing gear, just some piezes to prevent the ship overturn. For a ship of this size I think is a strange failure.

Most of the efforts to build the main body are focused into a technic solution to have a strong cargo bay that can be opened. It is locked with a clever mechanism, but what is the purpose of all those many pieces, if the cargo bay has nothing to show. There is room for at least four seats, and some other decorative features, but it is very sad to see how this part of the ship is finished.

The most unpleasant part of the ship is the cockpit. It is big enought to accommodate at least minifgs, with controls and seats, but is simplified to a maximum with nothing to show and place to one single minifig.

And the worst part are the huge gaps in both sides. I really could not believe it when I saw them!!! Where the high standards of LEGO designs? For a price tag set like this, this is a disappointing failure. Come on LEGO don’t become Lepin!

As my personal AFOL point of view, this is a beautiful set with some failures. It is enjoyable to build, but the pleasant visual appearance of the set is hampered for its design flaws.

We wish to thank LEGO for providing this set for review. All the opinions in this article are ours and are not supported or endorsed by LEGO.
