Set Review ➟ 42120 Rescue Hovercraft

I have never been a fan of watercraft, so I didn't expect very much from this set.

Boy was I ever wrong. For a small set, it comes packed with functions.

The set contains 457 parts which come in 3 numbered stages, as well as a small sticker sheet and of course the instruction booklet for the main model

From start to finish, It took around 45 minutes to build and properly align all of the stickers.

The multiple functions are what really shine. When turning the little black gear located on the top of the roof, a small set of wheels hidden underneath the model guide the Hovercraft either left or right, and the rudders in the back also move in conjunction with either direction. The small cockpit steering wheel also moves along with everything else. It is however only held in place by friction, so it can't be operated. But just seeing it move is a nice touch.

When rolling the Hovercraft along, 2 skinny wheels underneath operate several gears that find their way to the rear propellers, which spin as the model rolls forwards or backwards. While the propellers spin, an emergency light also rotates on the roof of the craft.

The steering of the rudders combined with the spinning of the propellers is the highlight of the model, and how all of the mechanisms come together is pretty clever. The propellers and rotating rescue light are held in place only with friction, but they seem to work just fine.

Overall, the set is very well designed and rather solid. And for everything that you get, it's well worth the price.
