Set Review ➟ 40468 Yellow Taxi

Creator 2021 brings a couple of small sets that are related to public transportation. 40468 portrays a yellow taxi, like the ones you would expect to see in New York.

The model is six studs wide, but using jumper plates, the top of the taxi is five studs wide. This gives the taxi a very natural look and makes the model look a lot less blocky than you might expect from a set that contains mostly standard bricks.

The base of the model contains a 2 x 6 brick in the front, but a 2 x 4 brick in the back. I am not sure why this decision was made. There is no reason why the brick in the rear should not go inside the passenger area of the car, as it would hardly be visible anyway.

Changing the rear 2 x 4 brick to a 2 x 6 brick would mean the model gains a little in sturdiness, and optically there would not be a gap that allows you to look through the car, right in front of the rear wheels.

On the other hand, Adding the two grey 1 x 3 plates between the wheels at the bottom of the car has a big aesthetic impact on model really makes it look better.

There is a little bit of SNOT technique using brackets to shape the front and rear bumpers of the car.

The car is a fairly quick build and as I mentioned before, the use of jumper plates to create a half unit offset really makes model stand out.

Now the odd thing is that when you look for this set on the website, you will find it in the Creator 3-in-1 category… but this set has only comes with instructions for a single model. I like the model, but I do miss the option to rebuild is into something else, following instructions.

On the flip side, the scale of the model is really convenient. Compared to other vehicles from the City theme the size of the vehicle fits in very nicely (even though the roof is quite low) and so the model can easily be used as an addition to a City layout.

To finish this review, here are a few pictures of the Yellow Taxi on my MILS road.
