Set Review ➟ 42117 Race Plane
42117 Race Plane is one of the smallest sets in the 2021H1 Technic line-up. With 154 mostly small pieces this set will cost aroun 10€ and, as any traditional technic set deserves, comes with 2 sets of instructions, one in the box and the other online.
The Race Plane represents an acrobatic plane and the model has a single mechanism: the front landing gear is connected to the propellor using four gears. The blades spin with considerable speed while the plane travels down the runway.
The set features an interesting mix of Technic ans Syste elements. The canopy for instance is made entirely of "traditional" LEGO bricks and so is some of the detailing on the side of the plane and the tips of the wings.
The build is simple and strightforward, but also sturdy.
The rear wheel feels a little flimsy, and the tyre came off a couple of times. I suppose the fact that it is off-centre doesn't help. But it seeems that was just because it wasn't put on straight and it perorms fine if you don't put a lot of pressure on it.
It felt like the wings were put on backwards, cso I turned them around. Does that make it look better? You be the judge of that. I am still undecided.
Unfortunately the instructions fof the second model are not yet available at the time of writing this review.
