Set Review ➟ 40426 Christmas Wreath

LEGO® has been kind enough to send us a copy of the 40426 set. Right now we don’t know the official name of the set because we haven’t received any kind of press release. The main model is a Christmas wreath that we can hang, and the secondary model is a variation of the main model, but to be placed horizontally. This secondary model includes four white candles used to mark Advent Sundays before Christmas Day. I have to say that these types of decorations are not part of my memories or Christmas culture, I get the impression that this custom is not very widespread in Spain, it is related to the origin of the Advent calendar and it is something that has arrive to my country in recent years from northern and central Europe.

The first thing that catches your attention is the shape of the box, square and not very raised (28x26x5,5 cm), it is not a size, let's say, usual, but as always it has an explanation. It has the appropriate measurements and shape to store the model once built and thus be able to store it without disassembling it until the following Christmas. The bags are numbered and come with two instruction books, one for each model. No stickers. It should be noted that at the end of the book of the secondary model you can find photographs with other suggestions for placing the candles and decorations.

The building process begins practically the same in the two models, since the circular base is common, except for the module where the rope goes to hang it, which varies slightly in the secondary model. This turns out to be a great relief, because for me the main negative point of the model is its building.

The assembly is very repetitive, the main part of the wreath is made up of 15 equal modules. It isn’t that it has too many steps, or the steps are complicated, but I found hard so much repetition. That is why it is an advantage not to have to disassemble everything to go from the main model to the secondary one. After building the modules and joining them comes the time to place the vegetation. It is not repetitive in itself, but it is not satisfactory for a builder either, since it does not present any type of special technique, it is simply stacking decorative parts. The last bag contains the parts to build the big red bow at the top of the wreath, perhaps the most entertaining part of building, unfortunately it has very few steps.

The model is very successful and visually appealing. You know, it does what a Christmas wreath does. However, I have to confess that the second model attracts me more. I guess it's a matter of personal taste.

Regarding the parts that the set contains, highlight a large number of plant elements, of different sizes but with little variety of color. Apart from this, the assortment of parts is limited by the repetitiveness of the model. We can highlight a large number of brackets and some plates in dark green, although unfortunately, one of the interesting parts, the wedge plate 4x2 only comes in its left variant…

In short, if you like to decorate your house for Christmas with LEGO bricks, go ahead, you will not be disappointed. But if what you like is the building process, I would look for other options or make my own design.
