40th anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure
It’s been 40 years since LEGO patented the iconic minifig. August 29th was the original date that the first patent (Danish) was handed in, in 1977. The first minifigures were not launched until 1978, and hence we are celebrating the 40th of the first launched minifigures.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this fact, LEGO has collected a bunch of assets for us to use:
- Design sketches_Minifigure line (hand sketches from the Minifigure Line to show thoughts put into design process for different characters throughout the last couple of Minifigure series)
- Infographic and Some videos
- The infographic shows key milestones of the minifigure’s development from the LEGO Building figure in 1974 up until today
- The “decade” video shows a highlight of minifigures from each decade – you will notice the latest decades have more minifigures included to link to the overall narrative that the variety of minifigures has continued to grow per decade
- The “patent sketch” is an animation of the minifigure design patent
- Media alert_fun facts (lighthearted media alert with emphasis on the role and fun facts of the legendary minifigure)
