Set Review ➟ LEGO Ideas 21308 Adventure Time
This time LEGO® brings us the characters of the CARTOON NETWORK™ series Adventure Time. This project, which was originally designed by the LEGO Ideas member Ludovic Piraud, also known in the AFOL community as aBetterMonkey, got 10,000 followers and was later selected to become the next official LEGO Ideas set—LEGO Ideas 21308 Adventure Time.
The set contains 495 parts and will be available starting January 1st, 2017. The set includes the following characters: Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Lady Rainicorn, Marceline, BMO, Gunter and Ice King.
The box is very attractive and shows the original cartoon characters next to their LEGO versions. The box contains 3 bags and instructions.
Characters
Finn: Finn is a 12-year-old boy, adopted brother of Jake and his best friend. He loves adventures. A proclaimed hero, his intention is to help anyone in need and to defend "Ooo". Finn’s face is printed on a 2x3 brick and the character has a sword. The arms move with the help of Plate Modified 1 x 2 with Small Towball Socket on End and a Technic Axle Towball.
Jake: Jake is a yellow 30-year-old magical dog, Finn’s best friend and adopted brother. The character is bright orange. The eyes are printed round tiles 1x1. The mouth of the dog is a printed Plate Round 2 x 2 with Rounded Bottom.
BMO: this is the multifunctional video game system Finn and Jake use. The face is printed on a tile 1x2. The arms are black hot dogs.
Gunter: Gunter is the leader of the penguins. His LEGO version uses the same printed eyes as Jake: round tiles 1x1.
Ice King: The Ice King is 1043 years old. His typical crime consists in abducting the princess and forcing her to marry him. Finn and Jake prevent this from happening every time. He’s an old man and his skin is light blue due to his extremely low body temperature. The eyes and eyebrows are printed on a 1x3 brick. He has the of power of launching rays of ice with his hands which is represented with Trans-Light BlueBelville Ice Crystals (Snowflake) 4x4. The 3 jewels in his crown are made with Pyramid Ridged Tiles 1x1x2/3.
Marceline: She is 1000 years old, but looks like she’s around 18 o 19, and she is the queen of the vampires since she killed the “Vampire King”, and she is now the only female vampire in the land of Ooo. Her face is printed on a 1x3 brick and she carries her base-axe musical instrument. The design of her hair is quite outstanding.
Princess Bubblegum: She is the benevolent governess of Candy Kingdom. She is a creator and bearer of civilization and development, an inventor and lover of technology. The LEGO version is of course bubble-gum pink. Her face is printed on a 1x3 brick.
Lady Rainicorn: She is a rainbow and on of the royal steeds of the sweet princess, as well as her best friend and companion. She is also Jake’s girlfriend and sometimes follows Jake and Finn on one of their adventures. Her eyes are printed 1x1 tiles. The cat tail parts serve to create her long mane.
Conclusion
This simple build conveys great realism to the characters of this cartoon and provides great playability. The set doesn’t contain any stickers: all decorations have been printed onto the parts. The set is very colourful and especially the characters BMO, Marceline and Lady Rainicorn stand out.
Without a doubt, a set the fans of Adventure Time will love.
