Set Review ➟ 70410 Soldiers Outpost
One of his year novelties is the Pirates theme. The 74010 Soldiers Outpost set is one of the smallest kits in this theme, which includes elements to build a small military outpost and its soldiers and a pirate raft.
This set is very small, it contains just 148 pieces and 3 minifigs: 2 blue coats soldiers and a pirate. The soldiers minifigs are really awesome, with beautiful printings in both torso sides. Both have the same printing, but they have different ranks, that are shown with different colour epaulettes: golden for the sergeant and white for the soldier. The pirate minifig has the torso printed in both sides too, and wears a new designed bandana /warp piece.
The box contains a small raft. The building process is very, very easy, but it contains some details that need to be mentioned. The sail, made with an old white cape with holes , is a nice detail, and the oar working as a rudder. There is also a functional element in the raft, a small catapult, but it is a little weird to have a catapult in a raft. The set comes with an octopus, a mandatory element for most of the pirate’s sets.
The small military outpost is built over a rocky formation. The building process is very easy again. Inside the main structure there is room for a treasure chest. A gun is placed on the top part of the structure, which can be rotated. Although it uses a very small amount of parts it includes some nice details like the crab hidden in the rocks and the lantern. The colour combination of dark red and white for the building works really well in my opinion.
Conclusion
This small set is beautiful, with only 150 pieces and 3 minifigs, is a nice addition for your Pirate layouts. The building includes some clips to attach it to the bigger 70412 Soldiers Fort set in order to get a stronger fortification, very similar to the 6242 set made in 2009.
It is a shame that this new Pirate theme is so few innovative. This theme is brought back to life with the same elements of precedent renditions, no innovations at all or different building like taverns, harbours, landscapes, etc. Pirate fans have only these bunch of sets to recreate their stories. Next year this theme will be over and there will be no possibilities to buy more elements for Pirates.
