Set Review ➟ 10692 Creative Bricks
LEGO launches a “new” theme of ‘basic’ sets that have their very own page on the website: LEGO.com/classic. As explained on that page, LEGO classic is oriented towards developing creativity and each set contains a mix of classic bricks together with some special parts. The set is completed with a brick separator and a small booklet that announces 7 different builds as examples of what can be done with the set.
Several things stand out in the booklet:
- Contrary to what we are used to, for example in the 3-in-1 Creator sets, all the models can be built simultaneously with the contents of the box.
- The models are classified in categories depending on their difficulty, with 1 (the sheep, car, lighthouse and pencil), 2 (the cow and shop) or 3 (bricks (the plane).
- There is at least one example of each level in the booklet, but for 3 of the 7 proposed builds you need to access the website to download the instructions.
The set contains 121 parts, with a relatively high proportion of “special” parts and there are elements in 29 different colours (in some cases a single element in a specific colour). It is hard to say if his is an advantage or a disadvantage: it allows for a lot of variation in the build, but complicates building anything in a homogenous palette, although there are some groups of colours that work very well together (brown and tan, different greens or reds, etc.). A curious detail: after building all the models there are still a relatively large number of unused parts. Some are the typical spares you may find in any LEGO set, but there are also 8 1x2 bricks (in bright light orange and orange). I particularly like the two different kinds of eyes printed on 1x1 round tiles.
The set is presented in a cardboard box with a plastic lid that looks like a giant 2x2 plate. The cardboard is quite solid and the complete box (box + lid) makes it look like a large 2x2 brick. The box isn’t very full of parts, but it is big enough to store all the builds inside comfortably.
