Set Review ➟ 75090 Ezra’s Speeder Bike
Star Wars Rebels is a 3D animated TV series which takes place between the “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” and “Episode IV: A new hope”. The cruisers of the “Ghost” fight against the Empire and they will become the seed of the Rebel Alliance.
Last year LEGO launched the “Ghost” and “The Phantom” sets as a start of this new subline of Star Wars. This year we have 5 new sets of Star Wars Rebels with new and unseen models.
One of them is the one I am going to analyze today: Ezra’s Speeder Bike.
There has been several Speeder bikes during all the LEGO history, starting from the ones that appear in the Episode VI, in the Endor Battle. In this set, we have a new version of the Speeder Bike. In my opinion is the most elaborated Speeder Bike launched and it has some new building techniques which makes it more strong and playable.
There are three minifigs: Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren and a new Stormtrooper.
Ezra Bridger was a Human male rebel from the planet Lothal and the Padawan of Kanan Jarrus. Bridger joined the rebel crew and began training as a Jedi under Jarrus' direction. Bridger and the crew undertook many missions together in an effort to defeat the Empire. It is the second time that he appears in a LEGO set, but in this case he has hair instead of a Helmet. Ezra has a blue lightsaber but the handle is different of the typical lightsabers.
Sabine Wren was a Mandalorian Human female weapons expert who was active during the reign of Galactic Emperor Palpatine around five years before the Battle of Yavin. She was also a graffiti artist who customized her armor and tagged a new symbol every time the crew of the Ghost struck Imperial targets. She’s a new addition to the Rebels minifigs and the hair piece it’s fantastic. She uses 2 laser guns to fight.
The Stormtrooper has a different pattern compared to the regular ones, but it doesn’t differ too much.
The Speeder Bikes are really very well done, with a strong design. The 614-AvA speeder bike was an Imperial military Speeder bike model manufactured by Aratech Repulsor Company. Both Speeder Bikes are equal, beside on the colours.
In the front part there are two movable winglets and the design allows this front part to be extended or retracted from the body of the Bike. The real model is very “curved” and although the LEGO model is a bit bigger, the use of curved sloped of different sizes makes the LEGO model quite similar to the real one.
I think that one of the problems on the size of these smalls models is that the minifig is “fat” and if you want to put the minifig on the model, it has to be wider. There are tons of brackets and bricks modified with studs on side. They are used to arrive to all the sides where some decoration or forms have are necessary.
The weapons in the bikes are another novelty. In both sides of the bikes there are one gun, like the ones that appeared last year on the Battlepacks. They are playable and we receive some 1x1 round plates as “bullets”.
The Speeders are “almost” SNOT and it helps to have a compact and well look model. When you put the minifig on the Bike, the overall look is fantastic. You don’t pay attention anymore on the oversize of the model, because the minifig compensate it.
Both Speeder Bikes are identical and this is probably only complain I have. When you have built the first one, the other is somehow boring because you are repeating all the steps you have done few minutes ago. The use of stickers is right, there are some but they are not massive.
The overall result is very nice. The set is very playable and the speeders can provide a lot of fun. The three minifigs are one of the reasons to get the set. With a price of around €26 this sets worths its value.
